If you like this Merry Christmas design, please share it on Pinterest! Getting the word out helps me create more free files, just like this one!
Lots of people are intimidated by doing plaid SVG files by layering vinyl instead of using plaid vinyl.
I was also intimated the first time I did it! I’m here to tell you, however, that it’s not nearly as difficult as it seems.
So grab your Cricut or Silhouette and let’s get crafting!
Every plaid file I create has a base layer. For this file, it’s the word ‘Merry’ in red. This layer is completely solid with no cutouts.
After ironing or heat pressing the first layer, you then apply the black pattern.
The black layer might look tricky to weed, but I promise, it’s not! It should peel up quite nicely if you are using quality vinyl.
You then line up the black pattern on top of the solid word, then you press. And you’re done!
For not much effort, you can have some really stunning results!
Plus, if you still don’t want to layer vinyl to make plaid, you can also just hide the pattern layer and cut out the solid layer using plaid vinyl.
If you’re making a shirt, tote, or another iron/heat press surface, I would recommend:
Siser® Easyweed® Heat Transfer Vinyl
If you’re making a mug, I would recommend:
Siser® EasyPSV™ Permanent Vinyl
